From Negative Infinity or “0” then put the Mark up gain to MAX. Interface gain to MAX engage the transformer switch and engage the compressor. Then I slowly raise the Master/Monitor level I’m at halfway and I still cant hear the noise floor – this thing is bloody Amazing!!! like you wouldn’t expect. As the Master monitor dial moves past 12’o ‘clock there it is, this pinkish whitish blend of silky mess, with an attitude of hush.. you know like it’s whispering master, the ring use the ring! Jokes” Now it’s at full Maximum gain it just materialised from another dimension HUMmmm there she is. the electrical Hum of the cine mag transformer!!! listening to it to me is like listening to the Flux Capacitor out of the Flying DeLorean , You know Back to the Future Movies, right?

So here I am listening to the flux of the Transformer, its like a persistent centered. With no phase cycles just the waves of power cycling through it, the white noise however had this beautiful phase shift like it was a fluid floating back and forth with a three dimensional field of depth to it.

The Night before I couldn’t sleep. Next Morning”Ding Dong” Tripping over my own feet as I race to the van. There it was, I saw the Box it was to my shock Horror!! Upside down on the floor and not even packed. it was just the Compressor box with a label stuck on it. Its bent it squashed. I’m Thinking what clown from Clown PJ’s Dispatched my new SSL Bus Comp Clone that Warm Audio Make. Like this!! Really, So I opened the box and WOW the plastic is all crinkled. You know when its new its clear the plastic bag they put electrical equipment in. this was and is not a New Item, Store DJ sent me a used Item. Boy did I blowup, Same way as the Berserkers would if they were in an epic sea battle convoluted by a raging Storm of lightning and wind and rain. So this is how I Became Aeolus Berserk.

1. I ordered, 2006 Ibanez SoundGear SR750, These were made is Korea. from Music 440 at Indooroopilly. I had returned all previous attempts at buying one. So I locked in and paid in full and waited for my bass to arrive. Months had past. One morning we all woke up to the biggest dust storm I had ever seen, the sky’s were red!! You couldn’t see past 2 4-5 metered in front of you. 10am I received a phone call, hey you bass has just arrived. I told my boss & took of early.

I’m standing at the front door of music 440 and you can see the dust sprinkling down from the windows ledge and wooden boarders of the Music 440’s front store door. looking up the street the last thing to make out is the pedestrian crossing button and lights after that it was a pale red orange haze !!! I kid you not!!

In my mind My gut feeling is this Storm has to be and is my fault. And its a sign that this Bad Ass Bass is going to kick up the biggest baddest dust storms of it own when i play this bass ip loud. So Rightfully so. (In the the first time of ever naming an instrument) …. … … … … … … … … … I named my Bass and called it “Dust Stom”. Sadly she was stolen. If you see her she has Japanese writing sticker on back that says BUTCHI GIRI. With HoT Pink surrounding.

The following story is a true story of events.

Visitors! You either know their type or you don’t. What you’re about to read might scare some readers. The possibilities of chance ? I was working on “Fall of the defiant” after my mornings early stage mix down. I got down and boogied with my outboard gear. Haywire’s a good word to explain todays scenario. And Cross Talking is the fact! Heck I removed the input audio jack from the back of Comp Left and the audio was still coming out!! I set up the audio flow (Gain Stage) Main L R outputs from the Stereo Master, exiting from SSL 2+ interface into the inputs on the Art V Pro 2 with stereo link engaged. Then the outputs of the Pro VLA 2 were split; the Left went into the first compressors Left input and the Right into the second bus comps Left input. The balance knob on the Art V Pro was a little skewed just a little bit. Wow! Did it sound amazing the laptop was vibrating on the glass table. Everything was shaking the Audio sounded clear. How ever I lost stereo control. By turning the master pan dial left shouldn’t the Audio pan to the Left, Nope! So I flick all the power switches off and remove the left input thats running into the Left Buss comp so there should only be the Right speaker working? Nope. Same sound !! I turn the the pan knob full left again. Should’ve quietened the right speaker wright? Nope ! What the Fu$@ is going on???? Im Puzzled! So all Off all power all leads pulled out and reset the same routing. Again sameness again. PUZZLEBAFFLED ! Oh well ! This is what we have, So I, in the words of our former music recording Ancestors. I printed the Audio To Tape.

Another Ghastly encounter of the “Goosebumps Raising kind”

It’s 11:00pm I’ve been listening to a plethora of major artists via Spotify off and on the rest of the day, To cross reference with the Draft version 1 of “Fall of the Defiant” After analysing and writing mix notes down by pen to paper, (ie: Lower gain on Arpeggiator @ 1:58, start fade down on Arpeggiator at 1:45) I noticed how the bass wasn’t sitting tight compared to the big name releases we hear on Spotify. The tops are fine! Its just the bass. I really need to fix! Brainstormin how to make this bass sound High Fidelity??? ……TAPE !!! So came the experiment. I wonder what the bass channel will sound like recorded to the Tape machine then recorded back into the computer.

I did just that “warning the following words of experiences again might scare some readers again”

I have 5 mins of silence before the production starts playing within the project on Logic, it’s there because its the time I use the find the sync with the TR-8 drum machine. (How I swing the midi clock to my Arps is accessible via this link Swinging the Midi Clock) …………. I prep the tape and prep LogicX start both from zero 3,2,1 simultaneously press play together, the audio is already setup as Mono left input into the Tascam 4 track Tape Recording and mono out into SSL 2+. There is 5 mins of pre roll. As the position indicator nears the start of the song I press down the record button (lever kind of action to the movement) I zero the counter on the tape deck and let it run.

The wave form so far is looking good! I wander off for a bit to let it finish, because everyone knows “A watched pot never boils” I press stop on the tape deck. Open and check the heads have retreated. All clear I press rewind. As the counter nears to zero, pressing stop. The counter displays 2. I take it the tape out and use my finger to rewind it the rest of the way. (Rewinding and stopping the tape deck in a short period of time, just doesn’t sit well with me, id like to keep the motor in tip top shape and as even as possible)………… My thought processes here is, I’ve rewound this enough past the starting point. And when I press play together its not going to line up and i’ll need to edit it. I set the position indicator, put the tape in the deck. And simultaneously press play. And quickly hit record on the computer software, LogicX. I wonder off again. Then when I returned to my shock horror. It lined up perfectly. So perfect in-fact that there had to divine intervention or a gremlin, Demon or even something else going on !

See how perfect the taped bass lines up!! This is scary!!!
Straight after I’m impressed yet confused and un-admittedly baffled. But shortly after this the input meter lights on the tascam begins blinking as if audio was being played into it. But I wasn’t and this Scared the Heebie-jeebies In me!!!! I quickly power it off disconnected all audio cables and pretended that just did not happen!

Wait until we get to my journal (blog) entry with the encounter of the Invisible Evil Synth Cats, these fuckers scratched the underneath of my Studio Logic Sledge 2.0

Turns out it was just an Alien Metal blob Insect. It heats up as it floats. You can see it has lodged itself into the side edge of the under board and floats from side to side engraving its little pattern it leaves behind.

Onto the PARANORMAL UNUSUAL Happenings of my studio today;

So the Tape experiment was deemed Successful. Unknowingly how the audio lined up and now the bass sounds like an ancient Egyptian or Mayan god humming a chant! inside a chamber in one of ancient Egyptian catacombs. I have goosebumps now every time when I listen to this track!
